Efforts with TAJIMA FOREST CORPORATION to cultivate richer forests

LY Corporation (the "Company") and TAJIMA FOREST CORPORATION ("TAJIMA FOREST") have concluded an agreement (the "Agreement") in December 2023 under which the Company and TAJIMA FOREST will trade J-credits*1 ("Credits") derived from forests owned by TAJIMA FOREST for ten years and trade 1,500 tons of CO2 absorption every year.
By cultivating richer forests through this Agreement, the two companies aim to link their efforts to environmental conservation initiatives including sustainable reduction of CO2, prevention of landslide disasters, and conservation of biodiversity.

In addition to purchasing Credits, the Company also wants to be involved in the process of creating them, so employees have been visiting forests firsthand to work on activities related to CO2 reduction, forest conservation, and the protection of animals and plants.
In September 2024, a tree-planting event called “Project to Foster a Rich Forest for a Sustainable Future” was held where lectures on biodiversity and other topics were given at “Minna no Mori"*2 (Forest for Everyone), a forest owned by TAJIMA FOREST. Tree-planting activities and biological surveys were also conducted during the event.

*1 J-Credit Scheme is a scheme in which the Japanese government certifies as "Credits" the amount of greenhouse gas emissions (such as CO2) reduced through the introduction of energy-saving devices and use of renewable energy, and the amount of CO2 absorption through appropriate forest management. Credits created under the scheme can be used for various purposes, such as achieving the targets of Keidanren's Carbon Neutrality Action Plan and carbon offsetting. *2 Part of the “Minna no Mori" (Forest for Everyone) managed by TAJIMA FOREST is a “conserved area” certified by the Ministry of the Environment. TAJIMA FOREST is the owner and manager of the site, while the Company is a supporter of the site that promotes the conservation of biodiversity.

Biological surveys

A survey of living organisms was conducted using Biome,*3 an app developed by Biome Inc. About 100 species*4 of living organisms were discovered, including Akebian-fruit orchid, Japanese knotweed, and Japanese freshwater crabs.

< Some of the living organisms discovered >
Japanese knotweed, Asiatic plantain, Gomchwi, Japanese geranium, Akebian-fruit orchid, Touch-me-not, Thunberg knotweed, Joro-spider, Japanese freshwater crabs, etc.

*4 A simple count made immediately after the survey was 160 species, but after further examination, it was found that approximately 100 species were identified.

Lecture on biodiversity, etc.

A lecture was given by an employee of Biome Inc. about the fact that biodiversity is being lost, social and economic trends in response to this, and Biome Inc.'s initiatives.
