Job Details

At LY Corporation, we are developing a new private cloud to replace Verda, which was developed and operated by the former LINE Corporation, and YNW, which was developed and operated by the former Yahoo Corporation. In this position, you will work as a software engineer in a team responsible for developing and operating two core services of the cloud network: VPC and EgressProxy, which centrally manages external connections.

Specifically, you will choose one or more of the themes listed below and work collaboratively with managers and mentors to address real challenges faced by LY Corporation's cloud infrastructure. You will also engage in R&D activities that serve as a first step towards new challenges. The themes will be determined during the interview process for the internship and in discussions with your manager and mentor after hiring. Please note that the content may change depending on the timing, so confirm the details during the interview.

  • Verification and expansion of Linux Networking's Weighted Cost Multi Path feature, and development of cloud network functions
  • Feature verification related to bandwidth limitations in Envoy proxy and Linux IP forwarding functions, and development of related cloud network functions
  • Technical verification of the hypervisor network stack and Proof of Concept (PoC) implementation of NFV functions
  • Optimization of ACL using eBPF-based flow logs
  • Investigation and performance improvement of SDN control plane scalability
  • Planning and execution of Chaos Engineering on the SDN control plane
  • Development of information accumulation and computation infrastructure for the control plane and data plane on the cloud for Network Verification
  • Efficiency improvement and enhancement of cloud infrastructure operations using LLMs and other technologies
  • Exciting engineering projects equivalent to the above

Required Experience/Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Linux
  • Basic knowledge of packet processing, routing protocols, and SDN
  • Development experience using programming languages such as C/C++, Golang, Rust, or Python

Preferred Experience/Skills

  • Deep knowledge of Linux Kernel, especially network functions
  • Development experience using high-performance packet processing frameworks like eBPF or DPDK
  • Experience in system design with a focus on scalability and reliability
  • Experience in adding features or contributing to well-known open-source software (OSS)
  • Experience in developing practical-scale system software such as OS, Network Stack, BGP Speaker, or SDN Controller
  • Experience in scientific problem setting, problem-solving, and evaluation, such as writing research papers
  • Experience in project initiation and management through extracurricular activities
  • Unique experiences or achievements equivalent to the above

Duration of the Internship

18/8/2025 ~ 10/10/2025 (8weeks)

*In principle, 3 days a week, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
*The standard working hours are from 10:00 to 18:45, including a 1-hour break.
*Details will be discussed and determined upon join.

Internship Format & Location

Hybrid

*This internship will follow a hybrid working style, primarily remote with some in-office work.
*Details will be discussed with the host organization (position) upon join.
*The office location for in-office attendance for this position is the Kioicho Office.

Compensation

  • Hourly wage of 2,600 yen
  • Provision of a PC
  • Reimbursement for transportation and accommodation costs when commuting to the office (with a cap)*
