Requests received inside Japan include requests from overseas via the Japanese police, including those received through international investigative cooperation frameworks such as the Act on International Assistance in Investigations and mutual legal assistance treaties (MLATs) with specific countries, the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO), and others. This count also includes requests received by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs via embassies.

Outline of responses

- here were 3,545 seizure requests, and 41 disclosures in response to investigation-related inquiries. 52 requests related to suicidal intent and 19 others were received as emergency disclosure requests. In total, the disclosure rate amounted to 98.69%.
- During the period, the primary countries that submitted requests via the Japanese police (including those received through international investigative cooperation frameworks such as the Act on International Assistance in Investigations and mutual legal assistance treaties (MLATs) with specific countries, the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO), and others) were the United States and South Korea.
- By crime, property crimes accounted for the largest share at 70.66%, with fraud comprising a significant portion. This was followed by public order and morals crimes at 9.15% and violent crimes at 5.71%.
- From overseas, 865 requests were received from Taiwan, of which 99.65% were disclosed. The number of requests has been increasing due to the expansion of those based on Taiwan’s fraud prevention law, and responses are provided after confirming their legality.
